Sunday, March 9th, 2008 "Family Matters"

Today’s scripture is Psalm 127:1

I. Family Matters-Why

What do you think God’s reasoning was when He said, “it is not good for man to be alone”. Genesis 2:18.
Discuss some of the reasons God created family as the ideal social model. Genesis 2:18 and 24, Gen 18:19, Deuteronomy 6:6-7, Proverbs 14:26.
How is the church like a family? Ephesians 2:19.
Do you think a person can be a Christian and not attend church on a regular basis? Hebrews 10:25
Why is regular church attendance so important to the believer?
What were the four major components found in early church gatherings? Acts 2:42

II. Family Matters-What makes a Family Strong?

Faith in God.
Do you think a house built without God can be a healthy family? Matthew 7:24-27.

Acceptance.
Why are negative words so harmful? Ephesians 4:29, I Thessalonians 5:11,

Memories.
What effect can good or bad memories have on the family?

Involvement.
What do you think your commitment to God should entail? I Peter 4:19
To your family? To your church?

Listening.
Why do you think most people are poor listeners?
What could we do to become better listeners? James 1:19
The wisest man who ever lived (Solomon) had a lot to say about good communication patterns. Discuss these verses: Proverbs 10:19, 14:17, 16:32, 17:27, and Ecclesiastes 7:9.

Believe.
Discuss different types of coping skills.
