Sermon Notes 02-10-08

Sunday, February 10th, 2008 "The Achiever Believer"
Today’s Scripture is I Corinthians 3:8-9

Reaching Your Potential

I. The Principle.
What is the principle described in I Corinthians 3:8?
What do you think a Christian’s potential should be?
For what purpose did God create us?
What are some of the things that hinder us from reaching our potential?
How important is attitude in this process? (Proverbs 23:7)
Does this verse have a deeper meaning than the obvious agricultural implication?
What is God suggesting that we do?
How do we accomplish that?
If we are faithful in doing this what does God say will be the result? ( Psalm 62:12b) (Matthew 16:27)
What will the results be if all we plant and water is negative? (Galatians 6:7)

II. The Practice.
What does repetition and practice accomplish?
How can that help us reach our potential?
How hard is it to reach our potential when we have a poor self–image?
Where does a poor self-image come from and how does it affect our lives?
How does a poor self-image get started?
Where does this spirit really come from? source of Peter says we “are a chosen people…His own special people” (I Peter 2:9)
How should this verse affect a person’s idea of his or hers self-worth?

III. The Prize.
Read Philippians 3:12-14. What prize is Paul talking about for himself?
What prize do you think we should be striving for?
Is it for a heavenly reward or is it for something much greater than that?
