Sermon Notes 01-13-08

Today’s Scripture is Jeremiah 29:11-14

I. God’s model or plan.
This verse indicates that God has plans for all of our lives, and there are two conditions that we must meet in order for those plans to be fulfilled.
How do you find out what God’s plans are for you?
What are the two conditions placed on us?
How do you search for God with all your heart? (Verse 13)
When it seems like God’s plans for us don’t make any sense what would be the best thing for us to do?
Gideon tried to avoid God’s will by giving God three excuses.
Look at Judges 6:13, 15, and 17. What are they?
Have you ever found yourself using any of these excuses to avoid responding to God’s will?
Do you think it is all right to ask God for a sign when you hear His calling for service?
Why do you think God left Gideon with such a small force? (Judges 7:7)
What was God’s purpose in doing this?
What lesson can we learn from Gideon’s victory that will help us in our daily lives?

II. The Method
Why do you think Abraham went along so willingly, without complaint or protest?
See Genesis 22:1-2.
Has God ever called you to do something you thought was absolutely strange or far out?
What did you do?
When God speaks to our hearts what makes it so difficult for us to respond faithfully like Abraham?

III. God’s RewardThe Law of the Harvest (2 Corinthians 9:6-8) tells us of the potential reward for giving.
What should be our motivation for giving?
