Sermon Notes December 16, 2007
Today’s Scripture is Luke 2:21-24 “The Leaders who missed Christmas”
Do you think this message and last week’s messages are only for those who haven’t yet found the Christ of Christmas (the unsaved)?
Or, do you think these messages are meant for everyone? If so, how do you think a Christian could miss not finding the Christ of Christmas?
What is the true message of Christmas and how should we respond to it?
What were some of the reasons that caused the religious leaders to miss the fact that the Messiah had come and was in their midst? Weren’t they familiar with the Old Testament prophecies?
What were some of those prophecies and how accurately did they describe events surrounding the birth and life of Christ?
Micah 5:2, Isaiah 7:14, Isaiah 53:3, Zechariah 9:9, Psalms 41:9, Isaiah 50:6,
Isaiah 53:12, and Psalms 22:16.
Why had they missed a truth that seems so obvious to those who follow Jesus, two thousand years later? What are some of the reasons that keep people today from believing?
Why is it that when we know the truth of God’s word we don’t always apply it? What are some reasons we don’t?
What are some of the reasons that keep Christians today from enjoying Christ and His fellowship?
Joseph, Mary, the Magi, and the shepherds, had all had heard directly form God regarding the birth of the Savior. Why do you think the religious leaders didn’t hear directly from God?
Why do you think that God signaled out Simeon and Anna to reveal the Christ child to? Luke 2:25-32 and 36-38. Why didn’t God alert many more than those two?
What can you do this Christmas season that will allow you to fully enjoy the Jesus of Christmas?
King Herod and the religious leaders missed out on finding the Christ of Christmas…be sure you don’ t!
