Today’s Scripture is Philippians 4:10-20 “Contentment”

In this scripture Paul gives us an instructive way to handle any kind of situation we may find ourselves in, whether they are physical, financial, or relational problems.
These kinds of situations can create a prison for us.

How was Paul, a prisoner, able to say that he had learned to be content in any situation?

Phil 4:11-12.

Can a Christian find contentment while going through a life crisis? How?
How would you describe “contentment”? (Webster: having a mind at peace)
What are some things that ruin our contentment?

I. To be content you have to hurt first? What do you think that means?
How do you think bad experiences can teach us to be content?

II. The futility of anxiety. Luke 12:25-34
What is anxiety? (feeling of apprehension, a threat to something we hold essential)
What are some of the major things that cause anxiety? (Family-money-health)

Matthew 6:25
Phil. 4:6
I Peter 5:7
How can we rid ourselves of needless anxiety?
Jesus told us not to worry about our daily needs, He would take care of us.
Why do you think Jesus warn us to not worry? See Phil. 4:19

III. The danger of trusting in wealth. Luke 12:13-23
What are the dangers in trusting in wealth?
When is enough enough? Why do we always want more?
How much wealth should a Christian have?

IV. Greed snuffs out faith and contentment and my relationship with God.

I Timothy 6:9-10.
How does greed snuff out contentment?
How is “generosity” a means to contentment? See Luke 6:38
